Solo exhibition “Unseen: a journey into inner worlds” at Slice of life Vancouver, Sept 2025

‘Tue Tue’ is a reinterpretation of the Chilean myth I grew up hearing around campfires in the countryside. The legend tells of a witch whose head separates from their body at night, sprouting bird wings to fly through the darkness. To protect yourself from their spell, you must be brave enough to invite the Tue Tue into your home, and when they arrive in human form, you place open scissors beneath where they sit, trapping them and ensuring they can never return to harm you. I reimagined this shape-shifting creature with a cape patterned after traditional indigenous Chilean designs instead of wings, clutching those very scissors in flight, capturing that moment when the supernatural has outsmarted us, stealing away our one defense.
